Forces Research and Referral Hospital (FRRH), also known as the Kenya National Referral and Research Hospital (KNRRH), is a flagship Level Six military healthcare facility currently under construction at the Kabete Barracks in Nairobi. Once complete, the hospital will represent a major advancement in Kenya’s military and security sector healthcare, delivering world-class specialized medical services, research, and referral care.

A National Centre for Advanced Military Healthcare

Designed as a modern, state-of-the-art institution with a 700-bed capacity, FRRH will serve all branches of Kenya’s disciplined forces, including the Kenya Defence Forces, National Police Service, and Kenya Wildlife Service, as well as their families. The facility is also planned to support UN personnel and, in later phases, offer services to the general public through a referral system.

Specialized Care and Medical Research

FRRH is envisioned as a comprehensive one-stop centre for advanced healthcare. The hospital will host highly specialized clinical units, cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment services, robust mental health and wellness programs, and advanced medical research and training facilities. This integrated approach is intended to strengthen both clinical excellence and innovation within military medicine.

Project Status and Vision

The project was officially launched in August 2021 following a groundbreaking ceremony led by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Once operational, the hospital will significantly upgrade existing military medical infrastructure, reducing reliance on older facilities and overseas referrals.
